[edit] Synopsis

After everyone returns from Velsper's naming ceremony, Urd walks past Peorth, who addresses Urd as a first-class candidate. Urd, sarcastically, thinks she's imagining things and continues to walk past her. Peorth hates old gags and makes her pay. Heaven decided that Urd had qualified to take the first-class exam, and Peorth will proctor it, which is the real reason she's staying at the temple, not vacation. Though, this wouldn't be the first time she's taken the test, so Peorth was a little worried that Urd would refuse. Skuld overhears this and becomes angry with Urd, because no one would dare refuse to take the test, since it is selective! Urd sees herself in Skuld at that age, and questions Skuld's motivation for being first-class, which leaves her scratching her head. Then, Bell and K jump in to inquire about the goings on. Urd tries to explain that she isn't sure if she'll take the exam, but Belldandy butts in with her optimistic support for her, which forces Urd to accept it. Peorth, mistakenly, questions Urd's sincerity for giving it her best, which leads to a comparison to her mother. Then, Peorth drops a bombshell by announcing that Belldandy will actually proctor the exam and set the problems. The first problem that she gives Urd is that she must boil the water in a glass by using only wind spirits. Urd's specialty is in fire and lighting, not wind! After a little creative humor, Urd is able to answer the problem and Bell provisionally unseals her first-class powers.

[edit] Notes

  • It may seem that any first-class goddess, regardless of being limited or unlimited, can a) proctor the first-class exam and b) provisionally unseal first-class powers.

[edit] Analysis

As it is in government, business, the military, etc., there are many who are only concerned with titles and power, specifically increasing them. Urd, on the other hand, seems to have come to accept her "role" as a goddess second-class, and the "benefits" of staying such later on. We start to see her clarity when she questions Skuld about why she wants to be first-class.

[edit] Redstar7's review

Very good in every department. It's funny and we also are starting to see past what we've perceived as Urd's selfishness to something deeper.
