[edit] Synopsis

This is the first appearance of the serial rap, um, er, Casanova, Aoshima. He tries to add Bell to his conquests, but gets quite a surprise instead.

So, it's time for the semester membership drive festival on campus. As we pan through some of the clubs, we stop at Sayoko and the Art Club. Normally popular due to being one of the prettiest clubs, something is amiss. Everyone is flocking elsewhere. They're going to see the Auto Club of all clubs. Then we see what is causing the clamoring, and it's of course Bell and Urd looking stunning. Through the crowd, we see Aoshima and when he spots Bell, it's game on. After inquiring if joining the club has "special privileges", like getting to date Bell and Urd, Tamiya assures him that it is so. So, out comes Aoshima's best moves. He even resorts to siphoning the gas out of K's bike, so that Bell will take a ride home with him. Of course, K lets her go. Idiot. After Sayoko reveals Aoshima's intentions to K, he goes tearing off after them. Bell recognizes that she and Aoshima have arrived at a "quickie" motel, which causes him to be more aggressive. Bell resists and puts the hurt on him. She falls asleep and K finds her and take her home.

[edit] Notes

  • Bell has to sleep after using powerful magic. She is also coming forth as a fantastic cook.

[edit] Analysis

Don't take this for anything more than face value, but the goddesses do get take advantage of in this chapter, and it wouldn't be the last time. As I state in my review, even though Keiichi does express concern that people may try to use the goddesses for their own ends, like when Bell trys to tell people she's a goddess, he and the Auto Club are using the goddesses to get new members. Now, it's also obvious that the goddesses don't mind, they're having a great time, and no one is getting hurt. It's just contradictory.

A very interesting dialog box appears in this chapter. Right after Bell tells Aoshima to not be so pushy with women and he makes his remark, there is a rectangular box that says "Now, teach him a lesson!". Then Bell does her incantation, which appears in a circle with speed lines around it. The font of the dialog and the spell are the same. In the manga, which Keiichi points out on the next page, Bell can get mad and lash out, though this occurs really only early on in the manga (jealously storms aside). I put forth that it was The Almighty talking to her, saying "Now, teach him a lesson!". For if it was Bell who said that, I would expect it to appear as a thought, or even dialog, balloon, and also appear after the incantation.

[edit] Redstar7's review

This is one of the more subtly humorous chapters. Tamiya provides some great comic relief. This chapter also reinforces Keiichi's worries that people would exploit the goddesses for their own purposes, yet there he is cheering this on, until the "can we date them" question.
