[edit] Synopsis

It's the 1st College Coed Golden Hammer Rally and everyone's pumped. Respect is on the line ("cough" and so is the budget "cough"). No pressure K and Bell. Bell should be fine, considering she's never driven a go kart before, but everyone else is an amateur. Oh wait, no. Aoshima hired some "cough" American "cough" goons of Diana Lockheed (Los Angeles Institute of Technology) and her boyfriend, David Proter (raced in Daytona 500). Amateurs, they ain't. No sweat though. A dummy, Bell ain't. Bell is able to follow Diana through the race, emulate her driving and make corrections. Wow. Of course, she sets a new course record. It's K's turn and Proter doesn't make it easy for him. He impedes K enough just to get him not to qualify, but wait. It's Urd to the rescue. A little flashing and the rest of the field wipes out. Not enough, huh. Well, Bell to the rescue! A little incantation to help K, until the return of Urd to the rescue! Oops. A nitro charged K speeds past Proter and is able to qualify for the final race.

[edit] Notes

  • Some interesting symbols appear on Proter's kart, including '666', a skull, and the Wolfsangel (German for "wolf's hook"). It's a Germanic symbol and in its horizontal variant (as drawn in the manga), it's known as "werewolf". Its historical origins could date to as early as the 13th century as a symbol that originated as a mason's mark, and later showed up as a heraldic symbol in coats of arms. While it appears in some city's coats of arms, its use by Nazi Germany (and ergo Neo-Nazi organizations), its sometimes associated with Nazism, just like the swastika and many of the other old folk symbols of the Germanic peoples. A rare expression of xenophobia by Mr. Fujishima.

[edit] Analysis

This is Belldandy's first race in the OMG! universe. It is a little odd that the most Keiichi does for her is telling her to relax. She doesn't know what she's doing!!! Hello?!?!?! I know she's a goddess, but she wipes out on the first turn! How about, "Hey Bell, this is how you brake, steer, and accelerate.", at the very least.

[edit] Redstar7's review

Sometimes when I look back at the cloths, I cringe. Oh God, the late 80's, early 90's. I can't get past that in this review.
