[edit] Synopsis

In Part 1, everything is fine and dandy as usual, at least for the first page. As you'll recall the Lord of Terror incident left Yggdrasil crashed and out of commission. Now we begin to see the full effect of the crash. Keiichi finds Belldandy asleep, Skuld devouring ice cream, and Urd consuming sake at a rate that would even make a frat guy jealous. What in the world could be causing this?! Well, it turns out that Yggdrasil converts energy from nature into a usable form for the goddesses on earth. Since the OS is down, that whole process is kaput. So, the goddesses revert to their alternative energy sources, i.e. sleeping, eating and drinking. Not only is this chaotic for Keiichi, but it's also a heafty financial burden. To make matters worse, this energy fluctuation causes the goddesses' Emblem Programs' to go haywire. Urd gets smaller, Skuld grows, but Bell stays the same. Now, how about going to fix this you may ask? After Keiichi receives a hint from a palm reader, with a little help from The Almighty, the problem becomes elemental.

[edit] Notes

  • More is revealed about the link between Yggdrasil and the goddesses. We learn about its energy conversion importance.
  • Bell explains how the symbols on their foreheads aren't just decoration, they're emblem programs.

[edit] Analysis

After K figures out that moon rocks are the solution (though Bell knows it was The Almighty that dropped a huge hint), he gets placed in an interesting position. He has power over the goddesses. All sing his praises and that sort of thing! We don't see him acting as a crutch for the sisters that often.

[edit] Redstar7's review

First, after seeing the anime take on this arc, I would recommend the manga version. The story flows better, there's more information, and there are some great illustrations by Fujishima, like when Urd confronts Skuld about tampering with her potion. Though these three chapters may seem like business as usual, I think parts 1 and 2 are quite worthwhile. Skuld develops beyond just a jealous sister, and a more innocent and playful side of Urd is seen. Part 3 is just plain fun and humor. And again, Skuld's punishment is still one of my favorite moments.
