[edit] Full Synopsis
Now that Skuld has settled into her new household, she's spending almost every waking moment with Belldandy. Skuld is happy to be with her big sister, until Belldandy accompanies Keiichi to the University. When Skuld mentions her apprehensions, Belldandy assures her that the University is 'a wonderful place,' and encourages Skuld to come along. Skuld balks at the idea, and goes off to disassemble Keiichi's bike.
Later that morning, Megumi stops by to have breakfast with everyone. Soon, the air is shattered by Skuld's triumphant cheers as she figures her plan to disassemble Keiichi's bike has come to fruition. Unfortunately, she got so disgusted with the design of the bike, that she ended up disassembling it and rebuilding it better than it was before.
Megumi takes notice of these changes, and mentions them to Skuld. However, Skuld feels that Megumi is treating her like a kid, especially when Megumi points out the engineering flaws in Skuld's redesign work. Skuld is about ready to unleash one of her 'Skuld Bombs' on Keiichi's sister, when Belldandy stops her. Belldandy feels that Skuld should compete against Megumi, as they both have a knowledge of technical expertise.
It is then that Otaki and Tamiya burst out of some nearby bushes, with the perfect idea: A robot battle. However, Skuld's idea of giant 50-foot mechas isn't quite what the two have in mind. The contest will actually center around several barrels huddled in a circle, with each combatant using their robot to collect as many as possible.
The next day, Skuld and Megumi come to campus and are shocked to find that each of them has a fan club of dedicated campus students. Otaki and TAmiya are also rallying among the campus, to take bets on who will win the battle.
As Skuld goes about putting her robot together, she is asked by numerous students if she needs help. However, each time Skuld timidly runs off. On her way across campus, she comes across a small area where Megumi is building her robot. Skuld scoffs at the fact that Megumi is using other people to help her. But Skuld becomes distraught when she sees one of the helpers is Belldandy, who is providing refreshments and words of encouragement to Megumi's helpers.
Skuld retreats to her work area, and continues to work away. Shortly thereafter, Belldandy, Keiichi and Urd show up, offering to help. Skuld scoffs at their help, insisting that she can finish this project on her own.
Back at the Temple, Belldandy feels that they should help her, but Urd feels they should obey Skuld's wishes. However, Keiichi comes up with a fair compromise: they'll help Skuld, but in secret. It is then that Belldandy reveals why she decided that Skuld should compete with Megumi. Belldandy had hoped that the competition would bring them closer together, and they would possibly become friends.
Finally, the day of the competition dawns, and each of the challengers is ready. Skuld is present with her 'Hysteric Wheel' robotic device, while Megumi has her 'Pot Shaker Dragon.' As the competition starts, Skuld's robot spins into the arena area, breaking down the barrels and sucking the remains into the robot. It seems that Skuld has an advantage, until Megumi's robot begins to collect barrels at a faster rate of speed: something Skuld hadn't counted on. Skuld then tries to maneuver her robot to take apart Megumi's machine. However, at the last moment, the barrel collector on Megumi's machine encloses over Skuld's robot, trapping it inside a space with nothing to destroy. Otaki remarks that since Megumi trapped Skuld's robot, and because it contains a number of barrels, Megumi wins. Skuld is not about to admit defeat, and activates the self-destruct switch on her remote control, destroying both robots.
In the aftermath, both Otaki and Tamiya disappear in a hurry, leaving many angry betters wanting their money back, as the competition ended in a tie.
Belldandy encourages Skuld to shake hands with Megumi in a show of good sportsmanship. However, Skuld rigs her hand with an electro-shock device, causing Megumi to cry out and drop to the ground. Skuld runs off, proclaiming that her robot was still better.
[edit] Manga/Anime Differences
- Originally, after the 'Lord of Terror' plot in the manga, Skuld fixed up Keiichi's bike.
- Speed was not a factor in Megumi's robotic design.
- Otaki and Tamiya were beaten unmercifully by the betters, whose money they had already spent before the battle. Their pleas for Keiichi to help them out of their predicament fell on deaf ears that day.
