From OMGWiki
i sometimes try and help out by going to delete some spam form the site, however i want to state that i have deleted spam in the recent changes section, example:(rv spam/vandalism). how is this done, as i dont want to just delete things and people think that im deleting peoples input.
i would really like to contribute on this site, so bit by bit im going to try and imput on certain parts if that is ok.
Hi UzimakiJinsei,
New contributers are always welcome and fighting spam is one of the things we really need to focus right now. Deleting or reverting spam so that everyone can see what you did is best done this way: Click on the history tab of the spammed article, look for the last version that was not spam (by clicking on the date) and then save this page with a summary of "rv spam/vandalism" or something like that.
I'll be away for most of the following week, so it is the right time for another contributer and "spam fighter". Other than that, I'd like to hear you thoughts and ideas for the OMGWiki and what the articles/sections are that we can improve.

was wondering if you are getting tired of the spamming on this wiki and wanted to think about starting a controlled site for all of this information to go into. We could use the wiki as a means of updating the other site. that way it will be more controled against spammers. would like to maybe assemble a team or something in order to do this at some point.
i am a multimedia and game design student, and i have many friends in web technology as well who could help us out. anyway email me on godzilladom@hotmail.com and i will give you my msn address so we can talk about it. (or other things).
The spamming is really tiring, you're right. I'll mail you as soon as I have time to really think about the whole thing (high pre-christmas workload at the university). The idea of restructuring the page with a team is really nice, as there isn't going on much (except spam/anti-spam) right now. I'll try to talk with Legend -- the founder and "owner" of this wiki -- about the idea and how we could improve the current situation.

yeh great, i understand about the pre christmas load trust me i have so many courseworks to do within 3-4 weeks. they just dont want us to have a christmas lol. :( UzimakiJinsei
Hi, I'm new here. I see that spammers have been overruning your nice site.
We had had such attacks previously on our site, wiki.hydrogenaudio.org, but ever since we force login and use a closed user group, we practically stop all vandalism.
Just to praise your nice site. I'll try to revert as many pages as I can.

Hi Pepoluan. Thanks for your help in trying to keep the site free of spam. I currently have close to no time (university keeps me very, very busy) so I'm quite happy that somebody manages the wiki.
I would make you an admin in terms of permissions too, if I could, but the two people with bureaucrat rights weren't reachable for some time now. When one of them becomes active again, I will make that suggestion immediately.
If you need any specific help that my sysop permissions could do some good (protecting pages/deleting pages) please say so. I have close to no time right now, but I'll try to help you as much as I can.
Thanks again :)

[edit] Some one swered up the site. :(
Hello, I'm Ether101
I was looking for the spelling of Keiichi's last name and decided to stop by but to my dismay the site was vandalized, seems like they got every thing but the main page. So as I was restoring Keiichi's page to all of it's glory when it hit me that maybe you could do it faster then me but if you can't and would like some help contact me at Ether101@hotmail.com. I also have a interview with Kosuke Fujishima that I think would be great for this sit but I don't know were to put it. Pi
Hi Ether, thanks for your suggestions and your help.
The spam problem keeps us busy for a long time now. I have discussed the problem with the site's sysadmin, but he isn't reachable anymore. He is the only one who could implement the needed changes (or update to a current version of Mediawiki).
I'm the remaining user with sysop priviliges, so I can protect/unprotect/delete pages if needed, but that's just about it. The "one-click undo" feature in the recent changes list doesn't help most of the time, because these spam bots repeatedly edit pages, and it only helps for the most recent edit. Pepoluan has made some suggestions for fighting spam, that seem to be the best and easiest way right now. If you have any ideas that could help in this situation, please don't hesitate to post them :)
btw: That interview with Fujishima would be a very good addition. I would suggest to either post it on a new page, and link it from the Fujishima article (like the goddesses' articles currently do to such articles) or put it on the Fujishima page. Either way feels fine.
